How to Grow Tomatoes and Peppers in a 5 Gallon Bucket

Tomatoes
Interested in growing tomatoes or peppers in your backyard or on your porch? Then you’re gonna love this… Here’s how to grow your own tomatoes for cheap in a 5 gallon bucket. In fact, the Urban Organic Gardener put together a fantastic step-by-step guide that will walk you through each step of the way. Click here to learn all about it… And here’s an additional step and bonus tip you should pay attention to (that I don’t believe they listed): I’d suggest that you drill a few holes out the bottom of the bucket to make sure that your soil can drain. Otherwise it can be really easy to over-water your container and drown your plants. Drainiage is super important. And now for your bonus tip! We found that using the right fertilizer can make all the difference but especially when growing in a container. And from our experience Down to Earth Vegan Mix has come out as the top #1 best organic fertilizer to use. It’s organic. It’s natural. It’s plant and mineral based. And it downright works! You won’t regret using it. Also, check out this bonus infographic from Sproutabl.com that’s all about how to grow tomatoes:

If I click on any of these will they download on this computer?
My computer is being fixed. This computer is an extra one of my grandson’s. He is a senior in college and lots of his things are on here. He has a newer one that he keeps with him at his place while he is away at college. I really don’t understand the whole download thing anyway.
I have 7 buckets that had pickles in them. I have 2 new food grade buckets. I have a lot of new LOWS and HOME DEPOT buckets that are not food grade. What I want to know is can I use those pickles to grow things? I already bought the large bags of soil.

      Hi Patty,

Clicking the link will simply take you over to the step-by-step instructions. No worries – it isn’t a download.

Are you wondering about using the buckets the pickles were in? You should be able to use them as I’d assume they are food grade (considering they had pickles in them). Go for it and let me know how it goes!
