Winter Garden Innovation: Using Old Windows to Extend Your Season

There really isn’t anything quite like walking outside on a brisk winter day and picking a fresh salad that is vibrant with color and that has the aroma of spring. I mean really, if you haven’t experienced as much yet – it’s worth doing.

Of course there are all kinds of ways that you can extend your season by using floating row covers (light weight cloth that acts like a blanket to trap heat), growing in a greenhouse or hoop house, using cold frames and more… But I never thought of this neat idea until I came across this post on Facebook:

Why not use old recycled windows?

It’s brilliant and looks so classy too… And if it was getting too cold you could make little curtains for the ends. So neat… I’m not sure who did this or if it originated on the Organic Gardening Facebook page but if you are the owner I’d be super glad to give you credit here. (OK – Update here: I believe this was originally shared here on the Libertarian Gardeners, Homesteaders, and Survivalists’s page) Great job – put a smile on my face!

Share this neat idea with your friends and let me know what you think in the comments below.
